European commercial vehicle market: +2.3% in July, + 7.3% in August, +4.8% in eight months

Demand for new commercial vehicles increased by 2.3% in July and 7.3% in August, reaching the fifth consecutive month of growth. Among the major markets, in August Spain recorded double digit figures (+18.0%), as well as France (+13.3%) and Germany (+11.7%), followed by UK (+2.4%) and Italy (+1.7%, with 11,064 units sold, only 181 more than in August 2017).

Light commercial vehicle registrations posted an encouraging +7.5%, thanks to the great performance of the new EU member state. Heavy truck and truck segments also expanded (respectively +8.6% and +7.6%), while bus and coach segment remained stable (-0.1%) after the recovery recorded in July.

Eight months into the year, European commercial vehicle registrations grew by 4.8%, with 1.6 million units overall. Spain posted the best result (+10.8%), followed by France (+6.0%), Germany (+4.4%) and Italy (+1.6%, with 133,986 vehicles, 2,170 over the same period last year), while UK contracted by 3.0% in eight months.
