Commercial vehicle market in the EU: -3.5% in December, +3.2% in 2017

In December 2017 demand for new commercial vehicles in the EU fell by 3.5%, with 205,949 units sold. Except for Germany (+0.2%), all main national markets contracted: Italy posted the strongest decline (-17.4%, with 26,464 registrations, nearly 5.6 thousand less than in December 2016), followed by Spain (-2.6%), France (-2.2%) and UK (-1.6%).

In the last month light commercial vehicle registrations declined (-3.0%), as well as truck and heavy truck segments (respectively -6.7% and -6.2%), while bus and coach market remained stable (-0.3%).

During 2017, European commercial vehicle market grew by 3.2%, with about 2.4 million units overall. Spain posted the highest result (+13.5%), followed by France (+6.9%) and Germany (+3.3%), while Italy (-2.3%, with 221,263 registrations, over 5 thousand less than in 2016) and UK (-4.4%) contracted in the last 12 months.
