Commercial vehicle registrations in the EU: +0.6% in September, +3.3% in nine months

Demand for new commercial vehicles in the EU posted no significant change in September (+0.6%), totaling 224,070 units. Among the 5 larger markets, Spain and Germany only expanded (respectively +7.8% and +5.5%), while France remained stable (-0.1%). Negative performances were recorded in Italy (-1.0%, with 18,180 vehicles sold, about 200 less than in September 2016) and UK (-6.0%).

Looking at the segments, only light commercial vehicles posted growth (+2.1%, pushed by Spain and Germany), while all others fell considerably: heavy trucks -6.3%, trucks -6.5%, buses and coaches -9.9% (despite the extraordinary +33.7% posted by Italy).

From January to September, European commercial vehicle market increased by 3.3%, with nearly 1.8 million units. Spain led the growth with double digit figures (+14.4%), followed by France (+6.5%), Germany (+2.2%) and Italy (+1.6%, with 150,365 registrations, almost 2.4 thousand over the same period last year), while UK slowed down (-3.3%).
