European commercial vehicle market: +10.7% in October, +4.0% in ten months

Commercial vehicle registrations in the EU grew significantly in October (+10.7%), with 206,487 units sold. Looking at the five big markets, Spain posted the highest result (+20.9%), followed with double digit numbers by France (+18.6%) and Germany (+14.5%). Italy grew by 5.2% (with 22,208 registrations, 1.1 thousand more than in October 2016), while UK fell sharply (-9.8%).

Across the segments, light commercial vehicle market increased by 12.7%, mostly supported by the positive outcome of Germany, France and Spain. Heavy trucks and trucks started growing again (+5.3% and +3.9% respectively), after the bad results recorded last month, while buses and coaches slowed sensibly down (-13.4%).

In ten months, demand for commercial vehicles in Europe expanded by 4.0%, with nearly 2 million units sold from January to October. Spain led the growth (+15.1%), followed by France (+7.7%), Germany (+3.3%) and Italy (+1.8%, with 172,176 registrations, about 3 thousand over the same period last year), while British market shrunk by 3.9%.
