European passenger car registrations: +5.2% in June, +2.9% in six months

Passenger car market in the EU expanded significantly in June (+5.2%), with nearly 1.6 million units sold, marking the best monthly result ever in volumes terms, considering the month of June. Among the main national markets, France posted the highest upturn (+9.2%), followed by Spain (+8.0%) and Germany (+4.2%), while Italy contracted (-7.3%, with 174,702 cars, over 13.5 thousand less than in June 2017) as well as the UK (-3.5%).

In the first half of 2018, passenger car registrations in the EU increased by 2.9%, reaching 8,449,247 units, also thanks to the good performance of the new member states. From January to June, Spain led the growth (+10.1%), followed by France (+4.7%) and Germany (+2.9%), while sales went down in Italy (-1.4%, with 1,120,829 registrations, about 16.5 thousand less compared to the same period last year) and UK (-6.3%).
