After the good result posted in August, demand for new passenger cars in the EU fell by 2.0% in September, totaling 1,427,105 units sold. This is mainly consequence of the negative performance of UK (-9.3%) and Germany (-3.3%), despite the positive outcome posted by Italy (+8.1%, with 166,956 registrations, 12.5 thousand more compared to September 2016) and Spain (+4.6%).
From January to September passenger car registrations in the EU grew by 3.7%, with 11.7 million units. Among the main national markets, Italy expanded by 9.0% (with 1,533,710, almost 127 thousand over the same period last year), followed by Spain (+6.7%), France (+3.9%) and Germany (+2.2%), while British market kept on declining (-3.9%). New EU member States significantly contributed to the overall positive performance (+13.8%).
