Passenger car registrations in the EU: -23.5% in September, +2.5% in nine months

After the exceptional expansion recorded in August, consequence of the introduction of the new WLTP test, European passenger car market contracted by 23.5% in September, totaling 1,090,220 units sold. Among the major markets, Germany posted the worse result (-30.5%), followed by Italy (-25.4%, with 124,976 registrations, over 42 thousand less compared to September 2017), UK (-20.5%), Spain (-17.0%) and France (-12.8%).

From January to September, passenger car registrations in the EU increased by 2.5%, with nearly 12 million cars registered (11,951,957). Spain expanded with double digit figures (+11.7%), followed by France (+6.5%) and Germany (+2.4%), while sales went down in Italy (-2.8%, with 1,491,261 units, about 43 thousand less than in the first nine months of 2017) and UK (-7.5%).
