In August 2017 demand for new passenger cars in the EU marked the best result in the last ten years, with 865,047 units sold (+5.6%). Among the main national markets, Italy posted the highest increase (+15.8%, with 83,363 registrations, +11,357 compared to August 2016), followed by Spain (+13.0%), France (+9.4%) and Germany (+3.5%). Only exception was the decline of the British market (-6.4%).
Over eight months, passenger car registrations grew by 4.5%, with more than 10 million vehicles sold all across Europe (10,232,658). From January to August 2017 Italy performed best (+9.1%, with 1,366,389 units, +133,768 over the same period last year), followed by Spain (+6.9%), France (+4.2%) and Germany (+2.9%), while UK posted a slight decline (-2.4%). The overall positive result was also pushed by the good performance of the new EU member States (+14.3%).
