Commercial vehicle registrations in the EU: -8.4% in December, +9.6% in 2021

European commercial vehicle market lost 8.4% in December, posting the sixth negative monthly result in a row, totaling 155,963 units sold overall, about 14.3 thousand less than one year ago.

Among the major markets, Spain recorded the lowest performance (-31.9%), followed by France (-9.0%), Germany (-6.0%) and Italy (-5.6%, with 19,151 vehicles registered, 1,137 less than in December 2020).

This mainly depended on the drop in LCV sales (-12.8%), while other segments posted growth: Heavy Trucks +23.5%; Trucks +19.1%; Buses & Coaches +6.8%.

Considering the whole year, demand for new commercial vehicle increased by 9.6% in 2021, reaching 1,880,682 units, also thanks to the comparison with the poor results of 2020. Italy posted the highest numbers (+15.5%, with 211,395 registrations, about 28.4 thousand over the previous year), followed by France (+7.4%), while Germany only gained 0.6% and Spain slowed down by 2.8%.
