Passenger car registrations in EU: -20.6 in April, -14.4 in four months

European passenger car market dropped in April (-20.6%), marking the tenth negative month in a row, and totaling 684,506 units overall.

Among the major national markets, Italy posted the worst performance (-33.0%, with 97,339 registrations, 47.9 thousand less compared to April 2021), followed by France (-22.6%), Germany (-21.5%) and Spain (-12.1%).

During the first four months of 2022, demand for new passenger cars in Europe contracted by 14.4%, with 2,930,366 vehicles sold. From January to April, Italy marked the heaviest drop (-26.5%, with 435,647 units, nearly 157 thousand less compared to the same period last year), followed by France (-18.6%), Spain (-11.8%) and Germany (-9.0%).
