Passenger car registrations in the EU: -22.8% in December, -2.4% in 2021

European passenger car market fell by 22.8% in December, with 795,295 units sold, contracting for the sixth month in a row and closing 2021 with another negative result.

All main national markets posted double digit declines: Italy -27.5% (with 86,679 registrations, nearly 33 thousand less than in December 2020); Germany -26.9%; Spain -18.7%; France -15.1%.

Considering the whole year, passenger car registrations lost 2.4%, totaling 9.7 million units, despite the comparison with the low performance recorded in 2020. Among the biggest markets, Italy closed the year with +5.5% (with 1,457,952, about 76 thousand more than in 2020), followed by Spain (+1.0%) and France (+0.5%), while Germany contracted by 10.1%.
