European commercial vehicle market: -67.0% in April, -34.5% in four months

After a whole month of lockdown, demand for new commercial vehicles in the EU dropped by 67.0% in April, with negative results in every segment, totaling only 61,369 units, less than a third of what recorded one year ago.

Decline was stronger in countries where most restrictive measures were taken: Spain lost 87.8%, Italy 85.5% (with 2,612 registrations, compared to the 17,993 of April 2019) and France 82.4%, while Germany limited the losses (-45.1%).

COVID-19 emergency consequences strongly affected all segments: LCV -69.6%; Bus & Coach -66.8%; Heavy Trucks -58.5%; Trucks -54.8%.

From January to April, commercial vehicle registrations declined by 34.5%, mainly for the losses recorded in the last two months. All main national markets posted double digit contractions: Spain -46.6%; France -41.6%; Italy -41.4% (totaling 41,669 vehicles sold, nearly 30 thousand less compared to the same period last year); Germany -22.5%.
