Passenger car registrations in the EU: -7.4% in February, -7.4% in the first two months of the year

Demand for new passenger cars went down by 7.4% in February, totaling 957,052 units sold in Europe. Among the reasons of this decline were the taxation changes announced by some of the EU member states and the general uncertainty caused by the Brexit.

Looking at the major markets, Germany posted the worst result (-10.8%), followed by Italy (-8.8%, with 162,793 registrations, 15,700 less than in February 2019), Spain (-6.0%) and France (-2.7%).

Two months into the year, European passenger car market lost 7.4%: Germany -9.0%; France -7.8%; Italy -7.3% (with 318,545 units sold, about 25,200 less than in the same period last year); Spain -6.8%).
