European passenger car market: -3.9 in March, -3.3% in the first quarter

In March 2019, passenger car registrations in the EU kept on declining (-3.9%), totaling about 70 thousand units less compared to March 2018. All main national markets contracted: Italy posted the worst performance (-9.6%, with 193,662 registrations, over 20 thousand less than in the same month of 2018), followed by Spain (-4.3%), UK (-3.4%), France (-2.3%) and Germany (-0.5%).

In the first three months of the year, demand for new passenger cars went down by 3.3%, with 4,032,881 registrations all over the European Union. Looking at the biggest markets, only Germany remained stable (+0.2%), while all others fell: Spain -6.9%; Italy -6.5% (with 537,289 units sold, over 37 thousand less compared to the first quarter of 2018); UK -2.4%; France -0.6%.
