Commercial vehicle demand in the EU: +9.0% in May, +4.6% in five months

Totaling 204,770 units, European commercial vehicle registrations grew again (+9.0%) after last May’s decline, with good numbers across all segments. Except for the UK (-2.6%), all main national markets posted growth: Spain recorded the best performance (+19.3%), followed with double digit figures by Germany (+13.2%). Italy saw a 9.2% increase (with 18,896 units sold, nearly 1.6 thousand more than in May 2016) and France also posted positive numbers (+7.9%).

Last month, trucks segment recorded a very good performance (+17.4%) mostly thanks to the expansion of Spanish, German and French markets and also demand for heavy trucks went up significantly (+13.5%). Light commercial vehicles market expanded in May 2017 (+8.4%) as well as bus and coach market (+4.1%, supported by the extraordinary result recorded in Italy).

In the first five months of the year, commercial vehicle registrations in the EU almost reached 1 million units (992,247), with an increase of 4.6%. Only UK slowed down (-3.8%), while all other major markets posted strong results: Spain (+15.5%), Italy (+7.8%, with 84,789 vehicles registered, more than 6 thousand over the same period last year), France (+7.0%), Germany (+4.3%).
