Commercial vehicle market in the EU: -2.4% in October, +11.6% in ten months

After 21 consecutive months of growth, in October 2016 commercial vehicle registrations decreased by 2.4%, totaling 185,055 units. Italy was the only big national market not to be affected by the decline, posting double digit growth (+47.9%, with 20,900 vehicles registered, 6.7 thousand more than in October 2015). Germany showed the worst performance (-15.0%), followed by UK (-6.4%), Spain (-5.7%), France (-5.6%).

Demand for new light commercial vehicles posted a slight decline (-0.8%), ending a 37-month trend of expansion. Both truck and heavy truck segments fell (respectively -9.0% and -7.7%), while bus and coach registrations kept decreasing for the fifth consecutive month (-6.7%).

From January to October 2016 commercial vehicle market in EU increased by 11.6%, totaling 1.9 million units (1,905,402). Over ten months Italy posted the best performance (+41.1%, with 168,952 vehicles, nearly 50 thousand over the same period last year), followed by Spain (+10.8%), France (+8.3%), Germany (+8.1%) and UK (+2.1%).
