Commercial vehicle market in the EU: +31.8% in August, +14.3% in eight months

Commercial vehicle registrations in the EU increased by 31.8% in August, totaling 150,425 units and marking the 20th consecutive month of growth. A remarkable result, led by the strong expansion of the van segment.

All major markets contributed to the overall upturn, especially Italy (+105.9%, with 14,281 registrations, more than twice as many as last year), followed by Germany (+42.6%), Spain (+19.5%) and France (+16.8%). UK also posted growth (+6.3%) after the decline recorded in July.

In August, light commercial vehicle registrations posted the 36th consecutive month of growth, reaching +35.8% over August 2015 and totaling 123,594 units sold, thanks to the excellent performance of the Italian (+117.8%) and German markets (+53.8%). Both heavy truck and truck segments kept growing (respectively +18.0% and +18.5%), while buses and coaches registrations showed no considerable change (-0.7%).

From January to August 1.5 million commercial vehicles were sold in the EU (+14.3%). In the first eight months all main national markets expanded: Italy (+39.4%, with 129,688 units, over 37 thousand more compared to the same period last year), Spain (+12.9%), Germany (+12.1%), France (+11.8%), UK (+2.7%)
