Commercial vehicle market in the EU: +8.5% in May, +6.5% in five months

Demand for new commercial vehicles kept growing for the fifth consecutive month in May 2019, posting a significant +8.5%, with 230,357 units all across Europe. All five biggest markets contributed to the positive results: Germany and France posted double digit numbers (respectively +24.7% and 12.6%), followed by UK (+4.8%), Italy (+4.7%, with 19,972 vehicles sold, about 900 more than in May 2018) and Spain (+1.5%).

Registrations went up in all segments: bus and coach recorded the highest increase (+23.3%), and also trucks and heavy trucks expanded considerably (+21.6% and +21.2%), while light commercial vehicles grew at a slower pace (+5.8%).

In five months, European commercial vehicles market increased by 6.5%, totaling 1.1 million units (1,102,276). From January to May, Germany posted the best performance (+14.7%), followed by UK (+7,9%), France (+7,7%), Italy (+3.9%, with 90,793 registrations, around 3.4 thousand over the same period last year) and Spain (+3,3%).
