Demand for passenger cars in the EU: +11.2% in March, +8.4% in the first three months

European passenger car market expanded significantly in March 2017 (+11.2%), with 1,891,583 units sold, marking the best March total on record.

All main national markets posted very good results: Italy led the growth (+18.2%, with 226,163 registrations, nearly 35 thousand more compared to March 2016), followed with double digit figures by Spain (+12.6%) and Germany (+11.4%). UK and France also grew (respectively +8.4% and +7.0%), although at a slower pace.

In the first three months of 2017 passenger car registrations increased by 8.4%, totaling 4,141,269 units in the EU. All the big five markets posted growth, giving a positive contribution to the overall result. Italy recorded the best performance (+11.9%, with 582,465 units, 62 thousand over the same period last year), followed by Spain (+7.9%), Germany (+6.7%), UK (+6.2%) and France (+4.8%).
