The positive trend in car registrations across Europe shows no sign of slowing down. September marked the third consecutive month of growth, with a solid +10.0% and a total of 888,672 units registered.
Among the major markets, Spain led the way (+16.4%), followed by Germany (+12.8%), Italy (+4.2% with 126,863 registrations, over 5,000 more than in September 2024) and France (+1.0%).
From January to September, demand for new cars in Europe grew by 0.9%, reaching a total of 8,057,335 registrations. Spain once again stood out with a +14.8% increase, while the other main markets remained in negative territory: France -6.3%; Italy -2.9% (1,167,995 units, around 35,500 fewer than in the first nine months of last year); and Germany -0.3%.
Looking at powertrains, battery electric vehicles strengthened their market share at 16.1%, hybrids remained the most popular choice (34.7%), and plug-in hybrids accounted for 9.0%. Conversely, petrol and diesel vehicles continued to lose ground, with shares of 27.7% and 9.3% respectively.
