European car market: +17.2% in April, +17.8% in four months

Demand for new passenger cars in Europe marked the ninth consecutive month of growth in April, with 803,188 units (+17.2%).

Looking at the main national markets, Italy posted the highest upturn (+29.2%, with 125,824 registrations, about 28.5 k more than in April 2022), followed with double digit numbers by France (+21.9%) and Germany (+12.6%), while Spain only gains 8.2%.

Four months into the year, passenger car registrations in Europe increased by 17.8%, counting 3.5 million units overall. Among the four biggest markets, Spain led the growth (+33.7%), followed by Italy (+26.9%, with 552,853 registrations, about 117 k over the same period last year), France (+16.7%) and Germany (+7.9%).

Considering sales by fuel types, battery electric cars increased by 51.9%, representing the 11.8% of the market. Hybrid electric vehicles kept growing as well (+22.7%), with a market share of 24.8%.
