European car market: -7.5% in January 2020

Passenger car registrations opened the new year with a significant contraction (-7.5%), with 956,779 units sold all across Europe. This result was consequence of the big expansion recorded in December 2019 (pulled by the announce of taxation changes by some of the EU member states) and of the uncertainty determined by the Brexit.

Among the four main national markets, in the first month of 2020 France posted the worse result, contracting with double digit figures (-13.4%), followed by Spain (-7.6%), Germany (-7.3%) an Italy (-5.9%, with 155,528 registrations, about 9.7 thousand less than in January 2019).
