European commercial vehicle market: +10.4% in December, +11.6% in 2016

Commercial vehicle registrations kept growing across all segments in December (+10.4%), reaching 211,941 units sold in one month. Amongst the major markets Italy expanded by an exceptional 97.0% (with 31,403 units, nearly twice as much as in December 2015), thanks to the incentives introduced a few months ago by the Italian government. Spain, Germany and France followed with much lower numbers (respectively +13.3%, +3.4% and +2.9%), while UK posted a definitely bad performance (-9.7%).

In the last month demand for new light commercial vehicles grew by 10.3%, mainly pushed by the expansion of the Italian market (+90.3%). Both truck and heavy truck segments posted growth (+16.1% and +12.0%), thanks again to the Italian market. Bus and coach registrations grew too, reaching +5.5% in December.

2016 was a positive year for commercial vehicle market in the EU (+11.6%), increasing for the fourth consecutive year and totaling 2,324,371 registrations. All five main national markets expanded, posting better performances than in the previous year. Italy led the growth with the highest upturn (+49.9%, with 225,324 registrations, almost 75 thousand over 2015), followed by Spain (+11.3%), France (+8.3%), Germany (+7.0%) and UK (+1.2%).
