European commercial vehicle market: +179.2% in April, +42.1% in four months

Commercial vehicle registrations in the EU jumped 179.2% last month, totaling 171,283 units overall, as a result of the comparison with April 2020, when the lockdown caused a fall in sales all across Europe.

Among the biggest markets, Italy posted the best performance with triple-digit figures (+642.3%, with 19,418 registrations, 16.8 thousand more than one year ago), followed by Spain (+547.3%) and France (+412.9%), while Germany kept growing at a slower pace (+60.0%).

Considering the four segments, LCV increased by 209.5%, followed by Heavy Trucks (+103.3%), Bus & Coaches (+86.4%) and Trucks (+86.3%).

From January to April, demand for new commercial vehicles grew by 42.1%, with 673,179 units sold in the EU. In four months, Italy showed the highest gains (+75.1%, with 72,996 units, about 31.1 thousand over the same period last year), followed by France (+62.9%), Spain (+43.8%) and Germany (+15.1%).
