European commercial vehicle market: +5.7% in December, +2.5% in 2019

After three consecutive months of decline, demand for new commercial vehicles increased by 5.7% last December, mainly thanks to the LCV market expansion, with 210,241 units sold overall in the EU. Amongst the biggest markets, only France an UK posted growth, respectively with +7.4% and +7.1%. On the other hand, Germany slowed down by 1.7%, while registrations fell in Italy (-4.0%, with 22,122 units, about 900 less than in December 2019) and Spain (-8.3%).

During the month, LCV segment grew by 8.2% and Buses and Coaches posted a slight increase (+1.2%), while Heavy Trucks and Trucks fell respectively by 13.6% and 9.4%.

Considering the whole year, European commercial vehicle market expanded by 2.5%, growing for the seventh year in a row and totaling 2,546,830 registrations. All main national markets posted growth: Germany +6.1%; France +4.3%; UK +3.0%; Italy +1.9% (with 215,596 vehicles, nearly 4 thousand over 2019); Spain +0.3%.
