European commercial vehicle market: +95.3% in March, +21.6% in three months

Demand for new commercial vehicles expanded by 95.3% in March, with 204,046 units overall in EU. This extraordinary result depended on the comparison with the numbers recorded one year ago, when sales were heavily affected by the restrictions imposed by European governments in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.

All main national markets grew significantly: Italy posted the highest numbers (+215.3%, with 20,895 units, nearly 14.3 thousand more than in March 2020), followed by France (166.7%), Spain (+151.7%) and Germany (+34.2%).

With an eye to the segments, LCV grew by 107.5%, followed by Heavy Trucks (+56.8%), Trucks (51.8%) and Buses & Coaches (7.7%).

Thanks to the results recorded last month, commercial vehicle registrations in the EU increased by 21.6% in the first quarter of 2021, totaling 501,703 units. From January to March, Italy posted the best performance (+38.0%, with 53,925 registrations, almost 15 thousand over the same period last year), followed by France (+32.6%), Spain (+11.1%) and Germany (+4.9%).
