European passenger car market: -0.02% in October, +7.2% over ten months

Totaling 1,104,506 units, about 200 less than last year, passenger car registrations in the EU posted a slight decline in October (-0.02%). Amongst the main national markets Italy recorded the best performance (+9.7%, with 146,632 registrations, 13 thousand more compared to October 2015), followed by Spain (+4.0%) and UK (+1.4%). Negative results were reported by Germany (-5.6%) and France (-4.0%).

From January to October 2016 European passenger car market expanded by 7.2%, reaching 12,348,502 units, supported by all five major markets. In ten months Italy posted the highest growth (+16.7%, with 1,553,394 cars registered, about 222 thousand over the same period last year), followed in double digit figures by Spain (+10.8%). Positive results also for Germany (+4.9%), France (+4.7%) and UK (+2.5%), although with lower rates.
