European passenger car market: -20.5% in March, -12.3% in three months

Demand for new passenger cars in EU fell by 20.5% in March, contracting for the ninth consecutive month and totaling 844,187 units sold.

All four biggest markets posted double digit losses: Spain -30.2%; Italy -29.7% (with 119,497 registrations, nearly 50.4 thousand less than in March 2021); France -19.3%; Germany -17.5%.

Three months into the year, European passenger car market declined by 12.3%, totaling 2,245,976 units overall.

In the first quarter of 2022, Italy recorded the worst performance (-24.4%, with 338,258 registrations, almost 109 thousand less compared to the same period last year) among the main national markets, followed by France (-17.3%), Spain (-11.6%) and Germany (-4.6%).
