European passenger car market: -6.0% in January 2022

Demand for new passenger cars in Europe went down by 6.0% in January 2022, marking the seventh consecutive month of contraction with 682,596 units sold, as a consequence of the semiconductor shortage still negatively affecting sales all across EU.

With an eye to the major markets, Italy posted the worst performance with double digit losses (-19.7%, totaling 107,814 registrations, over 26 thousand less than in January 2021), followed by France (-18.6%), while Spain recorded a modest growth (+1.0%) and Germany increased solidly (+8.5%).
