European passenger car market: +7.1% in January 2018

2018 opens with good news: passenger car registrations in the EU grew by 7.1% in January, totaling 1,253,877 units sold, about 83 thousand over the same month last year. This is an encouraging result, also considering the decline recorded last December (-4.9%).

Except for UK, whose figures are negative for the 10th month in a row (-6.3% in January 2018), all major markets expanded. Spain posted the highest growth (+20.3%), followed with double digit numbers by Germany (+11.6%), then Italy (+3.4%, with 177,822 car registered, about 800 over January 2017) and France (+2.5%).
