European passenger car registrations: +6.0% in March, +8.2% in the first three months

Marking the 31st consecutive month of growth, in March 2016 passenger car market in the EU posted another significant result (+6.0%), surpassing 1.7 million registrations (1,700,683) and reaching nearly the same levels as March 2007, before the economic crisis affected the industry.

With an eye to the main national markets, Italy only posted double digit figures, marking the best monthly performance again (+17.4%, with 190,381 registrations, about 28 thousand over the same month last year), followed by France (+7.5%) and UK (+5.3%), while Spain and Germany showed no growth (respectively -0.7% and -0.04%).

From January to March passenger car registrations totaled 3,819,269 units, increasing by 8.2%. In the first quarter of the year growth was supported by all major markets: Italy contributed to the overall upturn with an encouraging +20.8% (with 519,123 units sold, 90 thousand more compared to the same period last year), followed with lower numbers by France (+8.2%), Spain (+6.9%), UK (+5.1) and Germany (+4.5%).
