Passenger car registrations in EU: +9.6 in September, -9.9% in nine months

Demand for new passenger cars increased for the second month in a row, marking a significant +9.6% in September, with 787,870 units sold all across Europe.

With an eye to the main national markets, Germany and Spain posted double-digit gains (respectively +14.1% and +12.7%), followed at long distance by France (+5.5%) and Italy (+5.4%, with 110.976 registrations, nearly 5.7 thousand less than in September 2021).

From January to September, European passenger car market contracted by 9.9%, totaling 6,784,318 units. Among the biggest markets, Italy recorded the heaviest fall (-16.3%, with 976.055 registrations, almost 190 thousand less compared to the same period last year), followed by France (-11.8%), Germany and Spain (both with -7.4%).
