Passenger car registrations in the EU: +9.1% in April, +8.5% over four months

In April 2016 passenger car registrations grew by 9.1%, totaling 1,273,733 units and marking the 32nd consecutive month of growth. In the last month European market reached the highest result in volume terms since April 2008, shortly before the economic crisis affected the industry.

Looking at the major national markets, Spain posted double digit figures (+21.2%), together with Italy (+11.5%, with 166,966 registrations, more than 17 thousand over the same month last year). Germany and France follow with lower percentage gains (respectively +8.4% and +7.1%), while UK posted the weaker result, although a positive one (+2.0%).

In the first four month of the year passenger car registrations totaled more than 5 million units (5,094,026), increasing by 8.5%. From January to April all main European markets expanded, contributing to the overall strong result. Italy leads the growth with +18.6% (687,021 units sold, nearly 108 thousand more compared to the first four months of 2015), followed by Spain (+10.3%), France (+7.9%), Germany (+5.6%) and UK (+4.4%).
