Demand for new passenger cars in the EU kept contracting, posting -23.1% in September and totaling 718,598 units sold overall.
Among the major markets, Italy recorded the highest fall (-32.7%, with 105,175 registrations, over 51 thousand less compared to September 2020), followed by Germany (-25.7%), France (-20.5%) and Spain (-15.7%).
From January to September 2021, European passenger car market grew by 6.6%, thanks to the positive results recorded in the previous months, reaching 7,525,613 units. Looking at the four biggest markets, in the first three quarters of 2021 Italy led the growth with +20.6% (with 1,165,491 cars sold, nearly 200 thousand over the same period last year), followed by Spain (+8.8%) and France (+8.0%), while Germany slowed down with -1.2%.
