March brought a flat result for the European car market, with registrations down slightly by 0.2%, totalling 1,029,519 vehicles.
Spain (+23.2%) and Italy (+6.3%, with 172,303 units registered, 10,200 more than in March 2024) posted gains, while France (-14.5%) and Germany (-3.9%) recorded declines.
The overall first-quarter figure shows a downturn of 1.9%, with 2,715,008 new cars registered across Europe. Excluding Spain, which grew by 14.1%, all other key markets saw decreases: France -7.8%, Germany -4.3%, and Italy -1.6% (444,052 vehicles registered, nearly 7,300 fewer than the same period last year).
Hybrid vehicles remain the top choice, capturing 35.5% of the market, followed by petrol (28.7%), electric (15.2%) and diesel (9.5%).
