European passenger car market kept on growing in May, marking the tenth positive month in a row and posting a significant +18.5%, with nearly 1 million units sold.
All four biggest markets expanded: Italy +23.1% (with 149,373 registrations, nearly 28 thousand more compared to May 2022); Germany +19.2%; France +14.8%; Spain +8.3%.
Five months into the year, demand for new passenger cars in Europe increased by 18.0%, with almost 4.4 million units. All major markets posted double digit gains: Spain +26.9%; Italy +26.1% (with 702,263 registrations, about 145 thousand over the same period last year); France +16.3%; Germany +10.2%.
Battery electric cars now represent 13.8% of the market and hybrid electric vehicles are the second choice, right after petrol cars, which still have the largest share (36.5%).
