Passenger car registrations in the EU: -22.3% in June, -38.1% in six months

Demand for new passenger cars in EU fell by 22.3% in June, totaling 949,722 units, over 270 thousand less compared to one year ago. Although being a negative one, this result represents a small improvement when compared with the three previous months.

With the exception of France (+1.2%), all main national markets dropped with double digit figures: Spain -36.7%; Germany -32.3%; Italy -23.1% (with 132,457 registrations, nearly 40 thousand less compared to June 2019).

Six months into the year, passenger car registrations in the EU fell by 38.1%, mainly as a consequence of the results posted in March, April and May, although January and February closed with negative numbers. Spain posted the worse performance (-50.9%), followed by Italy (-46.1%, with 583,960 registrations, compared to the 1,083,184 of the first half of 2019), France (-38.6%) and Germany (-34.5%).
